The Story Behind The Name
At festive occasions we often see a string of lights strung between two or more supports. These are known as festoon lights.
The origin of the word “festoon” is from an early French word ‘feston’ which signified a garland of flowers (or fruit) strung between supports in such a way as to create an atmosphere of celebration for a happy festive event.
Just as festoon lights light up a festive event, so also there are some who have the ability to ‘string’ words together in such a way that enlightens the heart and cheers the soul. With this understanding, Festoon Publishing was born.
How Festoon Publishing Began
Festoon Publishing started when founder Paul Bolder set out to publish his own book Take the Highway! and discovered how difficult it was for smaller authors to find genuine support in a commercial publishing world.
Rather than let that experience go to waste, Paul created Festoon Publishing as a place for writers with meaningful stories who simply needed the right guidance, production and care to bring their work to life.
What began as a personal project has grown into a trusted short-run publisher helping authors across Australia.

Paul Bolder is a writer, publisher and lifelong storyteller based in Kingaroy, Queensland. With a background in ministry, creative writing and small business, Paul brings a practical and heartfelt approach to every publishing project.
After years of developing his own books and helping others self-publish, he saw the need for an approachable Australian publisher dedicated to producing works that inspire and uplift. Festoon Publishing was born from that vision, giving writers a place where their work is valued, their ideas respected and their words given the opportunity to shine.
